About Hearing

About Hearing LossOur ability to hear defines who we are and how we communicate. When everything works as it should, our sense of hearing has the power to inform, entertain and connect us with family and friends. There's so much in life that's worth hearing. You owe it to yourself to make sure you can appreciate every single sound.

For most, hearing loss is a part of life

Quite often, hearing loss begins subtly, about age 40. Because it is not a dramatic loss, most ignore the symptoms, if they notice them at all. They usually consider them a minor inconvenience, and just hope they will go away. As with any medical need, waiting too long will only increase the problem, and often, complicate the treatment.

One of the largest segment of our population, "Baby Boomers", suffers from effects of life long, increasing noise pollution: louder music, automobiles, jet engine, etc. This life long exposure has become the leading cause for hearing loss. About 40% of those with impairments are under the age 65. And it will affect them longer, because they are living longer. Hearing loss is third in the most common chronic health problems - suffered by 10% of the population, or roughly 31 million people. But, it is far more treatable than other leading medical conditions.
